Blue Ridge Chapter Event
2021 Fall Color Tour
October 23, 2021

Club members met at Hunter Volvo Cars Asheville for the route briefing and a few tips. With a few stops along the way to snap photos of the scenery, we arrived at our starting point for the Tail of the Dragon. Beginning at the North Carolina – Tennessee border, we survived riding down the tail and convened next to the Little Tennessee River in Tallassee for lunch. Having fueled up our bodies and our nerves, we reversed our route and rode up the tail, this time making sure we counted all 318 curves!

Having survived the Tail of the Dragon a second time, we proceeded on with our fall color tour, now heading to West Brother’s Private Exotic Car Museum in Hayesville, North Carolina. Our hosts, Dave and Gil West met us and happily shared history/stories of many of the cars in the museum. After ogling the wonderful cars in the museum, we adjourned to the West Tubing Company for libations, grub and debrief of our day.

Johnson Volvo is the newest dealership in the southeast and the service department is exceptionally awesome in addition to the bevy of absolutely gorgeous new Volvos. Johnson provided service techs to answer our drive ability questions and perform impromptu diagnostics on OBD equipped vehicles.

Blue Ridge Chapter
West Brothers Volvo – April 8, 2017

Volvo enthusiasts gathered at West Brothers Volvo off of Old Highway 64 West in Haynesville, NC. Activities: West Brothers is a premier repair and auto restoration facility. As such they have a collection of restored vintage vehicles (Volvos and Porches). From the “modern” shop, we’ll drive to the restoration facility in Murphy (15 minutes). There we’ll tour the museum-shop and chat in depth with restoration experts. Once satiated, we’ll caravan east through the picturesque Nantahala river gorge, stopping for an early dinner at The Rivers End restaurant before the journey home.

VIR Day – 2015

This Blue Ridge Chapter VCOA sponsored event was unparalleled; it offered the opportunity to drive our cars on a professional race course under controlled conditions (photo finish) and challenge our wet weather driving skills on the skid pan. The skidpan was the perfect event for the inexperienced driver to learn to control a vehicle under slippery conditions without damaging the vehicle. (Don’t worry, no one roll it!)
